BEFORE AND AFTER
Riverside Revive
Like many who fall in love with a pre-war home, Drew wanted to preserve all the original details. But at almost 100 years old, the wood floors had been sanded one too many times, while moldings were gloppy from dozens of bad paint jobs. The kitchen cabinets were sweet but non-functional. It was all simply too worn to salvage. To get the classic home he truly wanted, we needed to tear it all out and rebuild from scratch.
Since none of the old bits could be saved, a gut renovation offered the opportunity to rethink traffic patterns and sight lines, and to replace awkward swing doors with pocket and sliding versions.
Completely new floors, moldings, and doors match period styling. The new kitchen is brighter and better organized, but looks as if it's always been there. The overall result is an authentic, vintage-style home, better than it ever was and built to last another 100 years!
