BEFORE AND AFTER

Park Avenue Living Room

Wendy brought me over before putting an offer in: Was it worth the hassle a Park Avenue board review was sure to require?  If we took down the kitchen wall, and let all that blocked sunlight in, then YES.

Replacing worn parquet with wide dark planks immediately calmed the room down. The rest was cosmetic: new baseboards, dressing up existing HVAC cabinets, adding sculptural lighting. But open concept living requires beautiful storage: We adapted store-bought armoires with floating shelves backed by light-reflecting mirrors. A pale neutral palette lets colorful artwork shine. The big sectional is perfect for soaking up all that sunlight.
