BEFORE AND AFTER
Park Avenue Bed and Bath
One of Wendy's hesitations with this apartment was the view from the front door: Straight back to the bathroom, with the white porcelain sink clearly visible the minute you walked in.
But I thought, what if the sink were a beautiful antique cabinet with a huge round mirror over it? Add a dramatic black slate wall behind it and it wouldn't read as a sink at all.
The rest of this dramatic update to an '80s-era suite includes black river rock, a 300-pound slate window niche, and black shower fixtures. The room is divided diagonally (like yin and yang) between cleft black slate and glossy white tiles.
In the adjoining bedroom, a bookcase around the window creates an instant focal point and a roman shade adds height.
