BEFORE AND AFTER
Central Park West Gut Renovation
Alexander's home had become overrun with mismatched bookcases. They were everywhere, in every room, in most cases lined up on every available inch of wall.
The key component (and major engineering feat) in this renovation was an ingenious double wall of bookcases, which replaced a non-structural wall. One side of the shelves faces the bedroom and the other faces the living room, with a pocket door between them.
The bedroom is essentially a library, with shelving on all four elevations that create a nest for the bed.
Bookcases also run under and around the windows.
