BEFORE AND AFTER

Third Time's the Charm

This design came together over the course of serial moves, slowly evolving to a clean, modern look.

We started at the clients' colonial row house in upper Manhattan, simply replacing a worn sofa and removing inherited drapes.

Their move into a Harlem condo was an opportunity to play with paint colors, but it took one more move to get it right – when the apartment upstairs became available.

This third space had been painted in a yellow that conflicted with the northern exposure, and kitted out with gaudy wallpaper and lights.

A new palette in cool hues works with – rather than against – the soft natural light, finally creating what may turn out to be (maybe) a forever home.
